15 Photos That Will Inspire You to Visit Valparaiso, Chile

Valparaiso is a little port town in central Chile is famous for its colorfully messy hills loved on by artists and tourists alike.

But Valparaiso is much more than street art and dodging dog poo!

I explored the city for three days and below are my favorite photos that capture the essence of this quirky bucket list destination.

The cat game in Valparaiso is strong!

I snapped this picture with my phone as I was leaving the city—one of my favorite little finds.

In Cerro Alegre I weaved through alleyways and found many artists selling their work and performing. I really like how the guy on the right is enjoying the show.

The impressive Navy Building that dominates Plaza Sotomayor.

Little snack stands are never far away in Valparaiso and I’m golden if I can find roasted almonds!

I packed my own lunch and ate it at this here fountain.

There are often several groups of people and lone artists painting and drawing in the city. (Yes, I asked her first!)

Lifts are common in hilly hilly Valparaiso, but so are stairs. I almost always chose the latter and paid the price the next morning!

Emporio la Rosa has been listed in The Daily Meal’s top “25 Best Ice Cream Parlours in the World” so I had to try their claim to fame. The ice cream was very good, but I can’t taste a difference between Emporio and Florida’s Publix Premium at the supermaket. It’s probably just me and my dull taste buds—everything tastes good to me!

One of two beautiful cemeteries in Valparaiso. I forgot which one this one was, but both are worthy of a contemplative stroll.

What would a South American day-trip be without at least 100 dog photos?

Which one was yours? Are you headed to Valparaiso soon? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Oh my goodness!!!! I need to come here! I’m an artist and I totally travel to paint adorable street scene. Also, my goal is to paint murals around the world. Ecuador is as far south as I’ve made it in South America. Thanks for sharing this spot. What a unique place.

As an artist I think you’d absolutely love this place Rachael! Hope you get to explore one day! There are museums here as well, but I prefer the raw street art.
